Vinoteca City, the wine bar, restaurant and shop founded by Brett Woonton and Charlie Young, has officially opened its cellar doors in London’s latest foodie hub, Bloomberg Arcade. Inspired by the wine bars of Spain and Italy, Vinoteca City brings an exclusive Wine Ledger with a range of ‘off-piste’ wines, a fresh seasonal menu and laid-back all-day dining to the new Bloomberg European Headquarters, making it the perfect spot for post- work drinks and dinner or weekend brunches.
Drink
Built on the belief that great wine should be obtainable to all, Vinoteca City’s comprehensive collection, sourced from countries all over the world, offers the very best in quality and variety at an accessible price point. The extraordinary list has been curated by Brett and Charlie via regular sourcing trips where real gems are discovered and brought back to London. With more than 200 varieties, including sparkling, reds, whites, sweet, fortified, and breakfast wines, several being from unique wine regions like Luxembourg, Slovenia and Germany, varied palates and price points are covered with flair.
Exclusive to Vinoteca City is a special Wine Ledger, filled with continually changing, limited edition varieties, providing guests with the opportunity to sample superb wines at excellent value. The list includes Bordeaux classics and hard-to-find vintage wines. Standouts include a 1989 Vouvray ‘Le Haut Lieu’ Sec, Huet from France and an extremely rare 1996 Gattinara, Vallana from Italy. Other unusual wines include the 2008 ‘Gaia’ Clare Valley, Grosset, which is produced from vines that are pruned, trained and harvested by hand in Australia as well as the Biodynamic 2009 Pinot Noir, Block 5 from Felton Winery in New Zealand. Sample them while they last because once they’re gone, they’re gone!
Dine
Head Chef Kieren Steinborn creates a weekly-changing menu of seasonal modern European dishes with influences from classic British cuisine. Guests can enjoy all day dining, from weekday breakfasts, lunches and dinners to weekend brunch and Sunday roasts.
Start the working day off right with a coffee and breakfast at Vinoteca City. Perfect for early morning meetings or grab-and-go, the menu features grilled pink grapefruit with London honey and pistachios; chia seed pots with coconut and toasted pumpkin seed yoghurt; and avocado and sumac on baked ricotta toast.
In the evenings, unwind at the bar with a glass of your favourite wine and pair it with tasty bar snacks and sharing dishes of English rose veal meatballs or chick pea and cumin frittatas with San Marzano tomato sauce. Dive into a selection of shellfish, including Carlingford rock oysters, steamed Scottish langoustines and plump grilled scallops with pancetta. Bread is baked in-house daily and served with a range of British cheeses and Italian, Spanish and French charcuterie.
For lunch or dinner, start off with burrata and caponata; confit Adlington duck; or cured Var salmon with Riesling essence and soda bread, followed by seasonal dishes of grilled tranche of Torbay Brill, brown shrimps, cockles, and dried tomatoes; roast guinea fowl, pearl barley, sweet corn and smoked bacon broth; or tuck into Vinoteca’s signature grilled marinated Scottish bavette with horseradish, watercress and chips. Top it all off with the perfect digestif – a “liquid dessert” with three sweet or fortified wines.
