Grosvenor Europe has announced that Lunya, the family-owned Catalunyan restaurant bar and deli, has opened a new 5,500 sq ft restaurant in Liverpool ONE, located on the corner of College Lane and Hanover Street.
Following a £200,000 investment by founders Elaine and Peter Kinsella, the new site has enabled the multi-award winning independent business to expand its shop front and combine the dining area, bar and deli into one open plan space. In the first three days of opening, Lunya reported that trade grew by 40% year-on-year.
The restaurant, designed by DifferentStudio, retains a relaxed, traditional and informal setting. A 20-foot mural spanning both floors joins a 140 sq ft map of Spain installed in the restaurant, highlighting the locations of Lunya’s key suppliers and the story of the people and the land behind the produce. In addition, the owners have kept two pieces of artwork in the style of Antoni Gaudi, commissioned for their original site when it opened eight years ago.
The new, larger deli stocks a wider range of the high quality artisan produce from Spain that Lunya has become known for. They have also been able to provide the UK’s largest range of Spanish beers with a bigger bar. The increased space and additional facilities will also enable Lunya to grow the number and size of its regular events, which range from wine and food tasting evenings to gin experiences.
Commenting on the opening, Alison Clegg, Director, Asset Management at Grosvenor Europe, said: “It is fantastic to see Lunya go from strength to strength. We are delighted to have been able to facilitate this upsize and realise their full potential as a brand. This is a prime site at the heart of Liverpool ONE, in close proximity to a range of hotels and located on a thoroughfare that runs to both of the cities train stations. We are sure they will continue to thrive here and further build upon their successful dining experience.”
Peter Kinsella, Co-Founder of Lunya, added: “We’re absolutely delighted with our new site at Liverpool ONE, it looks stunning and we have received fabulous feedback from our many regulars who have been in to visit us already. With the increased prominence and visibility of the site, we have immediately seen an enormous increase in walk-in trade. We are delighted to have a fully accessible, totally ground floor operation, ensuring that Lunya is open to everyone.”
Lunya is a significant addition to Liverpool ONE’s Hanover Street, which has become established as one of the most exciting dining destinations in the North West and is currently experiencing an uplift in restaurant sales. Consumers are increasingly visiting Liverpool ONE for a day-out experience that combines shopping with leisure and socialising.
