This May, Charles Ross, Richard Temple and Jamie Hempseed will open The Vincent, a new all day restaurant in Hackney. After transforming the Sebright Arms on Hackney Road from a boarded-up pub awaiting demolition to an East End institution, the team have now set their sights on Hackney Downs.
The Vincent’s all-day menu, led by Head Chef Rob McMillan, will use carefully sourced, local ingredients. Fresh, homemade salads packed with rice and grains, such as the signature smoked hoisin crispy duck with peach and pomegranate, can be picked up for a takeaway lunch or enjoyed in the restaurant. Elsewhere on the menu will be buns, inspired by the team’s much loved Bunsmith’s menu, including the fried chicken with aioli and their classic cheeseburger.
On weekday mornings, fresh pastries and coffees will be available to go whilst weekends will be all about brunch, with a menu filled with home-smoked meats and fish, baked eggs and waffles, with low and slow cooked ribs taking centre stage for Sunday lunch.
“The Vincent is about bringing together the best bits of what you want from your local restaurant; from grabbing a pastry for breakfast, to enjoying a long brunch with friends on the weekend or a burger and a beer after work,” says Charles Ross, Co-Founder of The Vincent. “Having spent the last five years at the Sebright we are now ready for something new, so we are excited to have found a great site for The Vincent just up the road in Hackney Downs.”
Bringing the natural world inside with the use of raw materials, Charles has designed the space with West Architecture and Byron Pritchard, utilising the building’s double height glass windows and pillars to create a 50 cover downstairs restaurant and 20 upstairs. Flooded with natural light, the space will be filled with greenery, tile-topped tables and booth seating. During the warmer months, seating will spill out onto a large terrace with a further 50 covers offering al-fresco dining for guest to soak up the rays.
Behind the bar, the team will be keeping things local with brews on tap from Hackney neighbours Five Points and Pressure Drop and bottles from some of London and the UK’s finest craft microbrewers. Home-infused herb and fruit syrups will be integral ingredients on their cocktail list, whilst a concise wine list has been carefully curated by Co-Founder Richard.
