‘Our Fans by Peter Blake’ is an original artwork created by the ‘Godfather of British Pop Art’. It was commissioned by Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London to cover the facade during its recent renovations. Now the hotel, and their creative agency, LONDON Advertising, is launching a global competition to find the best ‘second life’ for the poster when it comes down in May.
The only catch: do you have a wall wide enough to hang it? Or do you have another inspirational idea for how the artwork could be used for public benefit or to benefit your favourite charity?
Measuring 65 metres wide by 24 metres tall, the poster features 100 Fans of the hotel including Morgan Freeman, Dame Judi Dench and even reunites the Beatles picturing Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
The competition is open to anyone – all you have to do is submit your idea in no more than 100 words. Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday 10th April 2017. Any profit from this ‘second use’ must be directed to a charity. The winner will be responsible for any costs associated with the winning idea including collection and storage.
- Should the poster be hung in a public gallery – and can you secure agreement to display it?
- How might fragments be signed by the artist and auctioned in a relevant way for a charity?
- Is there an innovative re-use for the material (e.g. tote bags)?
The competition coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album, whose iconic cover was also designed by Sir Peter Blake.
The Judging Panel includes:
- Sir Peter Blake
- Jill Kluge – Group Director of Brand Communications, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group
- Michael Moszynski – Founder, LONDON Advertising
- Gerard Sintes – General Manager of the hotel
