Yorkshire group Cedar Court Hotels ends 2016 on a high as December has seen a record number of partygoers celebrating Christmas at its hotels. Just under 20,000 Christmas party meals have been served across four hotels, an increase of nearly 20% on 2015.
At the same time the group has also achieved national awards for the Green Tourism Scheme. Hotels at Leeds Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield Halifax have all gained Silver awards for Green Tourism. The hotels were assessed on management, communication, social responsibility, energy and water usage savings. Also assessed were purchasing and waste minimisation, transport, nature and culture. Each of the hotels was highly rated for the management of its green credentials with all three being marked as “Excellent”.
The awards recognised the group’s commitment to support Yorkshire Air Ambulance as its dedicated charity whilst each hotel is also involved with local projects. These include free meeting rooms being offered to community organisations, hosted events for local charities whilst staff are encouraged to get involved with community and charitable work.
Speaking on behalf of the Best Western Plus Cedar Court Hotel Bradford, General Manager Emily Cox commented: “This year has been exceptionally busy and our Christmas season a huge success. It’s when the hotel is at its busiest that it’s easy to forget about green issues but I am very pleased that everyone at the hotel has really risen to the challenge. It’s little things such as our herb garden which is enjoyed by everyone and guests see that we manage our utilities and waste whilst in the leisure club state of the art energy saving equipment has been a real success.”
James Lake, General Manager at the Cedar Court Hotel Wakefield, added: “I would like to congratulate all the staff for their commitment. This was our first assessment for this nationally recognised scheme and we jumped straight in with a Silver award. As well as following an environmentally responsible course through our purchasing and management of utilities we have also made the external area more attractive to wildlife with garden planting and the installation of bird boxes. The introduction of a low voltage lighting scheme that reduces night light pollution for the grounds and car park has been particularly well received.”
