Germany’s market leading Krombacher Brewery has helped raise over £1600 for charity after Sam and Jack Houston ran the Frankfurt Marathon on the 30th October.
Krombacher provided Sam and his brother, who both work for the Krombacher UK team with free entry into the race. The company’s Non-Alcoholic Pils and Weizen are core drink sponsors of the Frankfurt and Hamburg Marathons.
Sam raised money for Pub is the Hub – a ‘not for profit’ association which provides advice, support and funding to pubs looking to make a difference in the local community. It also helps resident groups thinking about acquiring local pubs to make them a hub for the community.
The £1000 raised by Sam will be donated to the Pub is the Hub’s Community Service Fund which provides grants to landlords looking to start local initiatives. In the past this has included pubs setting up vital libraries, post offices and shops in rural pubs, running dementia days and even creating children play areas.
Sam completed the Marathon in 4 hours 32 mins and Jack, the younger of the two Houstons took the family bragging rights finishing in a time of 4 hrs 25 mins. Jack raised a total of £600 for The Alzheimer’s Society.
Sam Houston commented:
“It was an incredibly tough but fantastic experience so I have to thank Krombacher for the opportunity. It’s obviously disappointing to get whooped my little brother but brilliant to have raised some much-needed funds for two great causes. I’ve spent a lot of time in pubs and know just how important they are to a community so I know the money will make a real difference.”
