The team behind one of London’s best vegetarian restaurants, The Gate, is launching a new outpost in Seymour Place, London W1. The Gate Seymour Place will open its doors on Thursday 1 December, bringing the creative and delicious vegetarian food enjoyed at the Hammersmith and Islington restaurants to this popular area of Central London.
Like the other restaurants, The Gate Seymour Place will showcase vegetarian food at its best with an innovative menu which puts vegetables centre stage. This philosophy of celebrating the food; sourcing ingredients with care and thought, the intensification of flavours through skilful cooking processes, and combining ingredients in unexpected and creative ways has been at the centre of The Gate’s 27-year success.
The Seymour Place menu will include established favourites such as: aubergine teriyaki; green banana fritters; plantain chips and green dragon, a tofu-based salad, alongside new additions to the menu for the launch of the new restaurant including; three-way filled globe artichoke, aubergine schnitzel, and wild mushroom rotolo.
Seymour Place will be the first of The Gate restaurants to open for breakfast and the menu will include: scrambled tofu with smoky shiitake mushroom; toasted bagel with fresh avocado and organic poached eggs; egg white and spinach omelette with an avocado and toasted sunflower seed salad and potted chia banana and dates, with halva and sweet pecans.
The drinks menu will be a mix of sustainably sourced wines, from a diverse range of producers including the Yealands Estate in New Zealand and the Limney Vineyard in East Sussex. All wines will available by the glass. A range of cocktails will also be on offer, including The Gate’s Jalapeno Margarita and a festive Quince and Vanilla Margarita. The Gate has always promoted healthy eating, and so naturally, will offer a range of freshly made juices and non-alcoholic cocktails.
The Gate’s Head of Food, Yossi Edri works closely with the restaurant’s founders, Michael and Adrian Daniel, to develop new, innovative dishes which cater to vegetarians and vegans, and in keeping with some of the most consistent praise for The Gate, will bring the enjoyment of vegetarian food to non-vegetarians as well.
The interior of The Gate Seymour Place has been designed by architect Alice Bajrach in a pared-back style with plain walls, maximum use of natural light and simple furnishings to achieve a calm and refreshing space in keeping with the ambience of the other restaurants. The restaurant will seat 86 with space for pre-dinner drinks at the bar and seating for 16 on the terrace outside.
Michael Daniel, co-founder of The Gate comments;
“The launch of The Gate Seymour Place marks an important step in the life of our family business. I feel the time is right to bring our take on vegetarian dining to even more people and we’re excited to be doing so in Central London and in particular in Seymour Place among many fellow independents and in a venue which affords us a bigger stage for our inventive and carefully-honed cooking.”
