When we were invited to visit the newly refurbished Marco Pierre White Restaurant inside Liverpool’s Indigo Hotel, we decided to make the trip and send Sue Wood, our office manager and keen foodie.
Positioned in the heart of Liverpool the hotel has recently undergone a refurbishment of the ground floor areas including the reception lobby, Cotton Lounge and the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill, which also features an exciting new menu that is all about creating simple classic dishes.
From the stunning reception lobby of the hotel – the light fittings were made from drums, almost certainly a nod to the music heritage of Liverpool – we were shown into the restaurant where we were invited to enjoy champagne and cocktails. As the canapes were brought around, which was a lovely way of sampling the menu, we quickly realised that the essence of the night was to freely wander around the restaurant and focus on the design and was not just about the food experience, although the food did not disappoint.
The interior was quite industrial looking and reflected the industrial heritage of Liverpool’s cotton trade. Lots of straight lines and geometric patterns dominated and although on the night it was dark in the dining area and felt very moody and atmospheric, perfect for the evening, although for normal dining you would imagine they’d make it a bit lighter. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively.
Plenty of strong artwork stood out, in and around the restaurant and we particularly liked the large private dining booths, which seat eight and on the night were used to showcase the spirits as well as a selection of cheeses.
The new menu looks inviting and delivers just what they promise, simple classic dishes, from Welsh Rarebit with poached egg, smoked mackerel in fresh horseradish mayo with toast melba to Macaroni of wild mushrooms or The Governor’s fish and chips, to name but a few. The steaks, all 28 day aged from Royal Warrant appointed butchers, Campbell Brothers.
A great place to go whether you’re a resident or just want a great dining experience, and now we’ve got a taste for it we can’t wait to go back!
