Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell was the guest of honour at the launch of the stylish new Health Club & Spa at St Pierre Park Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, Guernsey, part of the award-winning Hand Picked Hotels collection.
The former Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion enjoyed a work-out in the Health Club & Spa before making a speech at the drinks reception to celebrate the opening, following a £2.5m redevelopment at the hotel, which offers the ultimate environment for fitness and relaxation in a beautiful landscaped setting.
Julia Hands, Chairman and Chief Executive, Hand Picked Hotels, said: “We are delighted to have welcomed Sally Gunnell to experience our new Health Club and Spa. This is an outstanding new facility for our members and our hotel guests, combined with the excellent level of service provided by our talented team at St Pierre Park. The £2.5m investment in the Health Club & Spa is part of our £4m investment to date in St Pierre Park Hotel and our £8m total investment programme in our hotels in the Channel Islands.”
The club has been completely reconfigured, incorporating bespoke interiors, the latest technology and an unrivalled level of facilities. It is also the first health club in the UK and Channel Islands to offer Matrix In-Trinity board classes.
Sally Gunnell said: “The newly refurbished health club and spa at St Pierre Park Hotel leads the way in the quality of its technology, facilities and its wonderful setting in a very beautiful part of Guernsey. In my role as a Matrix Ambassador, I truly believe in the benefits that Matrix In-Trinity board classes can offer, whether you are a professional athlete or someone that simply wants to find an alternative mode of exercise. It’s so important to stretch, and In-Trinity is a great way to do so correctly and with support.”
A spacious new indoor pool and wet area have been created, with mood LED lighting, an infinity wall and floor to ceiling windows. Two experience showers in shell-shaped cocoons incorporate body jets, essence, soft lighting and overhead rain drencher, perfect for added indulgence. A new sauna, heated by volcanic stones, has been created poolside, with two-tier seating, and with views through privacy glass over the lake and grounds, along with a new steam room offering 100% humidity. The pool and wet areas lead out onto an outdoor decked terrace for stretching and yoga, with a heated spa pool, outdoor shower, sun loungers and seating area, plus food and drink service on offer to make the most of al fresco dining.
A cardio gym has been added, with a stretch area overlooking the lake, featuring a range of cardiovascular machines to ensure variety and to provide challenges at all fitness levels, from a novice to a high performance trainer. Members will be able to choose from a range of landscapes to train in through a virtual active work-out option. A separate fitness and free weight zone and group cycling are also available. Core, aerobic, resistance and holistic classes will be on offer throughout the day in the studio and are included in membership, along with use of the three tennis courts.
The Spa is the perfect place to escape the pressures of everyday life and take time to relax and unwind. There are five indulgent treatment rooms, including one double, a fabulous relaxation room and a dedicated manicure and pedicure area. The spa features the latest Elemis treatments, including the Elemis Face and Body Couture Touch treatment, which is exclusive to St Pierre Park Hotel Health Club & Spa.
Dina Le Lacheur, General Manager, St Pierre Park Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, said: “We are proud to offer unrivalled facilities on Guernsey and we look forward to welcoming many new members as well as people who were club regulars before the refurbishment.”
