In January, Arabica Bar & Kitchen introduced a spiced red lentil soup to the winter menu which came with a side of charity, in the form of a donation made to the Soup for Syria initiative, established to provide urgently needed food relief for Syrian refugees in the Levant. With £2 per bowl sold going directly to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, Arabica Bar & Kitchen is pleased to report that to date, the initiative has raised over £1965.
Due to the generous support of its customers, Arabica Bar & Kitchen has introduced a healthy chilled Sweetcorn and tahini soup for late summer and early autumn which will include £2 donation to the Soup for Syria campaign.
James Walters commented: “Being a Levantine inspired restaurant we don’t feel that we can simply sit back and ignore the crisis in Syria. The conflict is now in its 5th year and is one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Teaming up with Soup for Syria, means all profits go straight to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR to provide urgently needed food relief for Syrian refugees in the Levant.”
We are so happy with the initial success of the campaign at Arabica Bar & Kitchen and with the conflict on-going, it’s the very least we can do to raise awareness and donate money raised from a dish on the menu as a gesture of compassion and solidarity. The soup is £5 a bowl – it’s a delicious, balanced blend of sweetcorn and tahini with a warming kick of ras el hanout, garnished with crispy onions and coriander oil. It’s healthy, packed full of flavour and we hope it will leave guests feeling a sense of solidarity of our shared humanity.”
Arabica Bar & Kitchen will start serving the chilled autumn soup last week and continue selling copies of the Soup for Syria cookbook, featuring recipes from Yotam Ottolenghi, Sami Tamimi, Anthony Bourdain, Mark Bittman and many more, with all proceeds going to the initiative.
