London’s original Bar.B.Q institution, Big Easy Bar.B.Q & Crabshack is proud to announce an exclusive bar collaboration with world-renowned New York cocktail bar, The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog. Launching at Big Easy Canary Wharf on Thursday 16th June, the partnership will see Dead Rabbit’s creative cocktails served in London for the first time.
The Dead Rabbit collaboration will commence residency at Big Easy Canary Wharf for two weeks, then relocating to Big Easy Covent Garden from Monday 27th June – Wednesday 13th July. During the residency The Dead Rabbit bartenders will join the Big Easy team to present a list of 13 drinks appearing on the Rumble in the Tumbler menu, priced £9 each. Rumble in the Tumbler puts six Dead Rabbit drinks, first served at the New York bar, up against six all new Big Easy cocktails, created by head bartender and drink innovator Csabi Toth, in a cocktail clash allowing guests to compare the drinks from both bars. Each shift will see a member of The Dead Rabbit team and a member of the Big Easy team behind the bar, working in tandem, in their respective uniforms.
Six rounds of booze battles include; The Dead Rabbit’s Pub Thug (Bulleit Rye, Pierre Ferrand 1840 Cognac, Blandy’s 5yr Madeira, cinnamon syrup) versus Big Easy’s Spicy Grandpa (Ron Abuelo 7 yr, Falernum, Angostura Bitters, lime). Next in the ring, The Dead Rabbit’s Banker’s Punch (Banks 7, OVD Demerara Rum, Smith & Cross, Redbreast 12 yr, Taylor Fladgate Port, Angostura Bitters, raspberry cordial, Lime) faces Big Easy’s Whoop Whoop! (Calle 23 Blanco Tequila, San Cosme Mezcal, pomegranate-ginger syrup, peach bitters, lime). The Dead Rabbit’s Oom Pah Pah (Lillet Rose, Fordaleza Blanco Tequila, Cider Brandy, Pamplemousse Rose, hopped grapefruit bitters, Boker’s bitters) takes on Big Easy’s Go Go Girl (jasmine-infused Bombay Sapphire, Absinthe, Peychaude’s Bitters, Prosecco, lemon). Cocktail lovers can also take the opportunity to sample The Dead Rabbit’s acclaimed signature drink the Irish Coffee (Powers Signature, demerara coffee, cream).
Named after an infamous 19th century street gang, The Dead Rabbit is the culmination of Belfast barmen Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry’s lifelong dream to combine sophisticated cocktail service with the best of Irish tavern tradition. Housed in a landmarked building in lower Manhattan dating back to 1828, The Dead Rabbit combines a first-story neighbourhood taproom serving craft beer, bottled punch and Irish whiskey, with a refined second-story cocktail parlour that offers 30 original cocktails. Opening to critical acclaim around the world, The Dead Rabbit also won the title of “World’s Best Bar” and “World’s Best Cocktail Menu” at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2015.
Of the collaboration, Big Easy co-founder Paul Corrett said: “This is an extremely exciting partnership for Big Easy; passion, quality and innovation are at the heart of Big Easy, as with The Dead Rabbit, and it became apparent after a meeting that together we could create something very special and new to London. Collaborating with one of the world’s best cocktail bars, and joining our teams, is a dream come true for us, and we are delighted to bring something completely unique to the London cocktail scene. This is just the start, watch this space for more exciting collaborations.”
Gregory Buda, Dead Rabbit’s training manager and senior bartender comments; “The Dead Rabbit is very excited to have been invited over by the Big Easy to collaborate on this event. It should be mutually beneficial and I’m sure that everyone will take something valuable away from it. It is a great opportunity for our bartenders to spend time in another of the world’s great cocktail cities; to explore the bar scene here and broaden their perspectives. Most importantly, it should be a lot of fun!”
London currently boasts first and third position in the World’s 50 Best Bars list (Artesian, first, and Nightjar, third); so the arrival of The Dead Rabbit, which currently holds second position, will see the World’s best three bars represented in London for a limited time only. The Dead Rabbit and Big Easy collaboration will be in residency at Big Easy Canary Wharf from 16th – 26th June, then at Big Easy Covent Garden from 27th June – 13th July.
