Two of BaxterStorey’s rising stars have been recognised at the Institute of Hospitality’s Annual General Meeting and dinner. Team Leader Georgia Georgantopoulou and Hospitality Manager Jay Barnard were awarded Learners of the Year for achieving the highest marks in their final exams.
Georgia completed the Institute’s Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management as part of BaxterStorey’s Leadership Academy. The qualification has equipped her with the knowledge to make informed decisions in the areas she supervises, support her team’s development and enhance her knowledge of management concepts.
Jay, who took the Institute’s Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Management, was promoted halfway through completing the course. Immediately tasked with re-launching his client’s hospitality offer, Jay was able use his business and management learnings from the Diploma to present a series of innovative proposals to his senior team.
The AGM also celebrated the appointment of new president, BaxterStorey Chairman Alastair Storey, who will now support the long-term strategy of the Institute. Together with with chief executive Peter Ducker, Alastair will promote learning and development and aim to attract new talent to the industry.
Alastair Storey said: “In order for the industry to continue growing, we must attract the right talent, equip them with the skills to develop and ensure excellent service. Georgia and Jay are shining examples of how encouraging personal development can ignite passion, propel careers and deliver quality.

BaxterStorey’s Leadership Academy class of 2016 recently graduated from the Institute of Hospitality’s Foundation Course with flying colours. The Academy has achieved Approved Centre status from the Institute for the course, which delivers the Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
