David Willock, Director of IT for Welcome Break, has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 CIOs for the third year in a row. The annual list is compiled by a panel of 11 judges from within IT, including Mark Chillingworth, a former editor of CIO 100, and Mike Altendorf, founder and CEO of digital consultancy and systems integrator Conchango.
David, who has been on the Welcome Break senior leadership team and leading the tech function since 2005, was named as number 77 in the list. This accolade comes at an exciting time for David, as he and his team have started to deliver key elements of the five-year IT strategy approved by the board last year.
The CIO 100 is completely independent and subjective, and showcases 100 examples across UK industry of IT leaders driving and supporting change and transformation in their organisations. Each person in the list has met the challenges of the company, its market, and the needs of the community or customer they serve, in a unique way.
CIO UK Editor, Edward Qualtrough, said: “The 2016 CIO 100 demonstrates that technology is changing our culture – and vice-versa – both in and out of an enterprise environment. What impressed the CIO 100 judging panel in 2016 is that CIOs, CTOs, IT directors, Heads of IT and a myriad of other tech titles are often leading the change to enable their organisations to remain relevant and optimal in a shifting digital landscape.”
David added: “I’m very proud to have been recognised again by the CIO 100 – it’s a real honour to be included amongst such high calibre professionals from our industry. Welcome Break is a dynamic, fast paced organisation, so ensuring the IT keeps pace with and is ahead of the game is a huge challenge. We believe we are leading the way in the motorway services sector, and the CIO 100 recognition supports this.”
