Outfront Kitchens are the result of a recent initiative by Halifax Opportunities Trust to bring freshly cooked, healthy meals to primary schools in the Calderdale area, a part of the country where a number of schools were predominantly relying on bought in, processed foods.
Headed by chef, Aaron Walker, the scheme comprises two kitchens, one Halal and one non-Halal, which have been generating 500 meals a day since September. In fact, the project was only given the final go-ahead in May 2015 so time management was critical to be sure everything was ready for the start of the new school year.
David Conway, owner of GBT, a highly respected kitchen equipment distributor with a nationwide reputation for its school and local authority work, came to the rescue by organising a complete installation over just 10 very long days. “We wanted to make sure that the equipment specified was the best possible quality and was going to give Aaron and his team the reliability they needed at the most competitive cost,” explained David. “We have specified Pantheon on numerous occasions over the years and, because the brand epitomises what we were looking for, it was an absolute that we would include some of their kit.”
Because all the food is prepared from scratch, making sure that both kitchens had a high functioning mixer was very important and Pantheon’s PM10s were specified. “I’d actually say that the mixers are my go to items of equipment,” enthuses Aaron. “They are used all day, every day from mixing dough for our pizza bases and bread to blending lots of ‘hidden’ fresh vegetables into sauces to ensure the children are eating enough. We also produce a lot of low sugar desserts and, again, the mixers come into their own. A favourite at the moment is our melt-in-the-middle chocolate brownie which utilises yoghurt and very little sugar.”
Outfront Kitchens’ success looks set to grow as more schools in the vicinity are keen to join the healthy food revolution. Plans are afoot for further expansion in the near future.
Pantheon’s versatile 10 litre mixer is powered by a robust and dependable 0.5 kW motor while the hard-wearing, all gear driven, transmission ensures smooth, friction-free operation across 3 speed settings. The mixer features a red, mushroom type stop button which complies fully with all UK local authorities’ safety guidelines. For additional safety, all PM10s have a fix on to the guard feeder chute.
The body of the mixer is made from a highly resilient, rust proof metal while the painted finish is heat cured for maximum wearability. Also, the lifting handle is made from stainless steel, as is the whisk and heavy duty, 10 litre mixing bowl. The beater and dough hook are fabricated from high grade aluminium.
