Television presenter Dan Snow, well-known for his regular appearances on the BBC’s One Show, has joined prisoner rehabilitation initiative The Clink Charity as Group Communications Ambassador, having been an avid supporter of the initiative since the first restaurant opened in 2009.
An Oxford graduate in Modern History, Dan has carved out an incredible television career, presenting a number of history documentaries and gaining several awards over the last 15 years. Adding writing to his repertoire, Dan authored Battle Castles: 500 Years of Knights and Siege Warfare which was published in 2012 to accompany a six-part documentary he presented for the History Channel.
Commenting on his appointment as Group Communications Ambassador, Dan said: “The history of crime and punishment is sometimes a murky one. To bear witness to how far we have come with training initiatives such as The Clink Charity and Restaurants shows how much we have progressed as a society. Focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment has real potential to reduce the constant spiral of crime for the benefit of society as a whole and The Clink demonstrates this every day.
“My role as Group Communications Ambassador allows me to be directly involved with the history of the criminal justice system and I hope that by lending my experience in broadcast journalism and leveraging my network of contacts, I will bring further awareness to the excellent work the charity does.”
Chris Moore, chief executive of The Clink Charity, added: “Dan has been a great support to us since the beginning and having him on-board as an ambassador will support us in spreading the word of The Clink even further. Someone of Dan’s vast knowledge and media experience is hugely beneficial in raising the charity’s profile. Having a respected, friendly and recognisable face on-board enables us to reach new audiences.”
The Clink Charity teaches prisoners the essential skills required to create high quality dishes and provide excellent service in its restaurants whilst The Clink Gardens train prisoners in horticultural skills and techniques, allowing them to produce fresh produce for use in the restaurants. Prisoners in training work to an accredited City & Guilds NVQ curriculum, allowing them to gain professional qualifications with the charity providing a dedicated mentoring and support service to help Clink graduates secure employment upon their release.
The Clink Charity’s Ambassador Programme also features an array of high profile industry professionals, including world renowned restaurateurs Antonio Carluccio OBE and Albert Roux OBE and Michelin star chef Giorgio Locatelli.
