Gidleigh Park celebrated on Friday 22 January, as a new era got underway with Michael Wignall’s first service at the iconic Devon hotel.
Guests were welcomed with a chilled glass of Champagne and sat down to enjoy Michael’s brand new 10 course tasting menu, including dishes such as ‘Octopus pressé, Portland crab, smoked scallop roe emulsion, ginger and seaweed, radish and basil’, and ‘Fresh ricotta lightly smoked, watercress, chargrilled ‘hen of the wood’, nasturtium and celeriac’. Supported by his new brigade in the kitchen, including eight chefs who have travelled to Devon with Michael to continue working alongside him, Gidleigh Park’s new Executive Head Chef joined guests in the dining room during coffee to thank them for their support and to celebrate his first service with them.
Michael Wignall comments, “After months of planning, I’m delighted to have delivered our first service here at Gidleigh Park. The team have performed brilliantly, delivering faultless dishes, which generated wonderful responses from our first night guests. Gidleigh Park enjoys an enviable record of excellence, and I’m delighted to take up my place here”.
Describing his own food as ‘modern, technical and meaningful’, Michael has amassed an impressive list of awards and accolades during his career, including two Michelin stars and five AA Rosettes at his previous restaurant, The Latymer.
Michael has introduced new menus to Gidleigh Park, with tasting menus served each evening for dinner and a choice of tasting menus or a three-course menu at lunchtime. A new afternoon tea menu has also been created, served between 3.30pm – 5pm daily.
Prices start from £40 for lunch Monday to Thursday, with tasting menus starting from £110pp. All guests dining at Gidleigh Park for lunch before 24 March 2016, will be welcomed with a chilled glass of Champagne to celebrate Michael’s arrival.
