Wednesday evening some of the H&C News team decided to go for an early dinner, partly motivated by a local pub/restaurant/club offering 50% off in Jan and Feb. So we walked about 500yds down Ascot High Street to Bar 1.
On a Wednesday evening at about 6.30 you would expect to walk in and get a table straight away, not so, it was fully booked. While our drinks were being served and we were discussing where to head off to one of the waitresses came over and said she would rearrange a table for us if we could wait five minutes, we were more than happy to.
So we settled into some chairs by the open fire that was throwing out a very warm welcome on a cold January evening and chatted. The waitress then came back and walked us through to our table in the restaurant. We didn’t order starters and got straight to the mains, we ordered…
- Lamb Shank marinated in rosemary and garlic served with mashed potato and a red wine demi-glazed cranberry sauce
- Seared tuna steak on a bed of Mediterranean vegetables served with a tomato, lime and coriander salsa
- American Hot Pizza with mozzarella, pepperoni, and jalapeno peppers
The food arrived quickly and was cooked beautifully. The food was accompanied by bread and water and three of us had two beers each, the bill was forty-seven pounds including service and the service was excellent!
If you find yourself in Ascot and are looking for an early dinner, we would highly recommend. In fact, we are going back this Tuesday, and yes we did remember to book. to celebrate a fantastic January start to 2016 at H&C News. Good Food and Great Service = Loyal Customers.
