Applications for the Master Innholders Aspiring Leaders Diploma (MIALD) 2016 are now being accepted and junior managers, senior supervisors and heads of departments working in the hotel industry are encouraged to apply.
The MIALD sees students study for an internationally and industry recognised Level 3 Award from the Institute of Leadership & Management, learning through a combination of group workshops, back-to-work activities, private study, project work, best practice visits and guest speakers with specialist experience.
Taking place over a 12-month period, study sessions begin during April 2016 and are broken down into two-day sessions giving students the opportunity to learn more about themselves, their business and the industry to develop themselves further.
Invaluable
MIALD success story Craig Jackson (pictured above), recently promoted to general manager of Northcote, the four-red-AA star, 26-bedroom hotel in Langho, Lancashire, completed the course in January 2015. He has since won an Acorn Award, which recognises the brightest prospects in the hospitality industry under the age of 30.
Speaking of his MIALD experience, Jackson said, “The course was invaluable. We were exposed to a number of industry based problems which would prepare us for senior positions within our business from a variety of different viewpoints. The course has given me the skill to be able to multitask whilst still ensuring that guests remain the centre of everything we do.
“Without doubt the course has helped me develop not only within my job role here at Northcote but also within the wider hospitality industry. I have numerous mentors across the country in all different types of properties and without the MIALD course I would never have got the opportunity to meet them.”
Designed to develop
Designed to develop management skills, leadership talent and build career prospects, the MIALD covers eight key business areas: Business Management, Business Marketing and Sales, Consumer Management, Finance and Business Planning, Human Resources Management, Legislative Management, Professional Development and Leadership.
Applicants must be nominated by a senior colleague and complete an application form by 19 February 2016. Some financial support is provided by the Master Innholders Charitable Trust, with the employer of each successful applicant required to contribute £1,500 towards the overall cost of the programme.
The course is delivered across a variety of outstanding hotel venues including Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, The Renaissance St Pancras, Grosvenor House London, a JW Marriott Hotel, Wivenhoe House and Lancaster London. This unique experience allows junior managers to acquire the underpinning knowledge to better lead their teams while at the same time enabling them to expand their awareness of the industry.
