A new general manager has been appointed to lead a recruitment drive to fill 15 positions at Glasgow’s first ibis Styles Hotel, located in the Merchant City.
Experienced hotelier Rory MacAleece will take up the position later this month and will recruit a team of local staff to help build a reputable name for the hotel, synonymous with great service, personality and style.
The new premium budget hotel in the heart of the city which will feature 101 bedrooms over eight floors, as well as a bar for guests, has received a £7m investment. Glasgow-based Redefine|BDL Hotels will help drive the recruitment campaign and take full responsibility for the venue’s operations when it opens its doors this autumn.
Joining from luxury Edinburgh boutique hotel Nira Caledonia, award-winning general manager Rory brings with him 20 years’ experience in delivering the very best service for his hotel guests.
Alongside Rory’s managerial post, the hotel will create a mix of full and part time positions including roles in the front of house, housekeeping, waiting and maintenance teams.
Fantastic addition to the city
ibis Styles Hotels are renowned for telling individual, city specific stories and the Glasgow hotel will be no different. The contemporary interior has been designed with the Glaswegian personality and sense of humour firmly in mind. And with tributes to the Duke of Wellington’s infamous cone hat, Buchanan Street’s instantly recognisable Police Box and Tunnock’s Teacakes – a Scottish favourite – the property is expected to be a fantastic addition to the city’s thriving hotel and leisure landscape.
Rory MacAleece, general manager of ibis Styles Glasgow, said: “The premium budget hotel market is absolutely booming in Glasgow at the moment so it’s fantastic to be heading up one of the city’s most exciting new hotels.
“Located in the Merchant City, we have a fantastic central location which I hope will attract a large number of leisure guests looking for a modern, stylish and fun stay in Glasgow. We also hope to capitalise on the market’s buoyant corporate trade and become a must-stay destination for international business travellers.
“The guest journey is extremely important to me so I’m on the hunt for a team that can help me drive a really high standard of service for our customers from day one. TripAdvisor now reigns supreme and we want our guests to leave ibis Styles Glasgow with a big smile on their face – a positive, energetic team is integral to making this happen.”
Steven Foster, Divisional Director at Redefine|BDL Hotels, said: “It’s a landmark moment for Redefine|BDL Hotels as we welcome Rory to head up this exciting new hotel within our UK-wide portfolio, and look towards recruiting a wider team.
Homecoming project for Redefine|BDL Hotels
“ibis Styles Glasgow is a homecoming project for Redefine|BDL Hotels – we’re based in Glasgow and are delighted to be opening our first hotel in the city. Breathing new life into a dilapidated building on our doorstep makes this project extra special, and it’s great to work with AccorHotels as it brings its first ibis Styles branded hotel to the city. We now look forward to welcoming a team of enthusiastic individuals set on making the hotel a success.”
