Wavertree Town Hall set to become restaurant, bar & event space

May 31, 2015

One of South Liverpool’s most iconic buildings is set to be transformed into a new restaurant, bar and events space – almost 170 years after it was first built.

Following an impressive five figure sum investment, the iconic Grade II Listed Wavertree Town Hall, which has stood proudly since 1847 and most recently ran as a pub, will undergo a series of interior renovations to create an impressive 50 seat restaurant along with a 45 seat bar in the form of Murphy’s Town Hall Tavern, along with two individual 130 capacity function suites.

Managing the project is Conor O’Donovan, who is the Chief Executive of Sefton Park Hotel and O’Connor’s Bar & Grill located in Sefton Park.

Conor said: “After securing a new venture in another great suburban setting, the team and I are extremely excited to bring something new to the area. Not only will the new venue serve a selection of contemporary-classic dishes and beverages, the sheer scale of the property will also enable room hire facilities ideal for private parties such as weddings, birthdays and christenings, as well as corporate events.”

Great new addition to a lively location

The High Street venue was originally built as the headquarters of the Wavertree Local Board of Health and was designed by local architect John Elliot Reeve, who lived in nearby Sandown Lane.

Conor added: “Being one of Liverpool’s most historic districts, rich in culture and diversity, the High Street is renowned for its urban-village appeal and beautiful buildings. With that in mind, we believe that the overall offering and Murphy’s will make a great new addition to the lively location.

“Having witnessed an increased demand for more local venues that offer a holistic approach, we feel that we will help to fill and gap in the market, and that the Town Hall will become a destination of choice for people across the city.”

The venue is set to open its doors to the public on Wednesday 17 June.
