The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has approved five new apprenticeship standards developed by the hospitality trailblazer, led by Hilton Worldwide, and managed by People 1st.
Coinciding with National Apprenticeship Week, the new standards are:
- Hospitality Team Member
- Hospitality Supervisor
- Hospitality Manager
- Commis Chef
- Chef de Partie
Skills Minister Nick Boles MP (pictured above with Trailblazers Chairs) said: “Apprenticeships are a real success story. Through giving leading employers such as Hilton Worldwide the power to design and deliver high quality apprenticeships, we can give young people the skills our economy vitally needs.”
Clear and robust progression pathways for employees
Kathryn Porter, Hilton Worldwide and chair of the hospitality trailblazer said: “The hospitality trailblazer is absolutely thrilled that all five of the standards that were submitted to BIS in February have been approved, but even more so as it’s been a long challenge defining the very important customer facing, generic skills that all hospitality team members, supervisors and managers need in a way that meets the government criteria for apprenticeships.
“It’s been a fantastic team effort and we now have a suite of apprenticeship standards that offer clear and robust progression pathways and will be of great service to the industry for recruiting, retaining and developing employees. The People 1st team have been integral in supporting the employers in driving the collective vision of developing robust and relevant standards for our industry.
“ Annette Allmark, director of strategic policy at People 1st, the industry’s workforce development charity, and the organisation managing the hospitality trailblazer activities for the sector said: “Hospitality is an exciting industry to grow a career in but sadly some still have the perception that it is low skilled. The trailblazer employers have clearly defined through the new standards, which can help apprentices develop right through to management and high level skilled positions, that in fact that is not the case at all. We encourage businesses that have not been involved in apprenticeship so far to find out more and get involved in the on-going work of the trailblazer.”
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week and highlight the exceptional and diverse opportunities on offer in the service sector, People 1st have created a video with the support of trailblazers Hilton Worldwide, BCD Travel and the Royal Navy.
