The national winners of the Startups Awards 2014 – including Restaurant of the Year for The Yorkshire Meatball Compnay – have been announced.
Sponsored by Simply Business and organised by Startups.co.uk, the number one website for start-ups and small businesses, the Awards recognise the success of Britain’s newest businesses which have been trading for less than three years.
Now in its 11th year, the Startups Awards prides itself on being the first to recognise up-and-coming brands of the future – and this year’s winners are set to follow in the footsteps of previous success stories such as The Cambridge Satchel Company, Raspberry Pi, Secret Escapes and Notonthehighstreet.com
Presented by David McQueen, renowned public speaker and executive coach, there were 15 trophies awarded in all – selected by a panel of 22 high-profile judges that included entrepreneurs, CEOs, managing directors and media experts.
Restaurant of the Year
The Restaurant of the Year went to The Yorkshire Meatball Company of Harrogate, Yorkshire (pictured top), founded by David Atkinson, which has made a big impact since launching earlier this year. Said to be the UK’s only specialist meatball restaurant, the company has plans to open a chain of outlets in future.
David Lester, founder of Startups.co.uk, commented: “Congratulations to The Yorkshire Meatball Company for a deserved win in a deliciously hard-fought category. From the Sugar Supper Club in Northern Ireland to Sosban & the Old Butchers on the Isle of Angelsey, and the Yorkshire Meatball Company in Harrogate, this category demonstrated the excellence and breadth of our restaurant industry in the UK.
The overall Simply Business Startups Business of the Year – selected from the winners of all other categories – went to Edinburgh-based Beer52, founded by Young Entrepreneur of the Year winner James Brown.
