Returning for its second year, the Sake Sommelier of the Year competition aims to find the most skilful Sake Sommeliers, bringing them to the attention of their customers and employers, and raising the profile of their profession along with their establishments. An enormous amount of learning and confidence-building takes place by taking part in the competition.
The winner will not only gain the accolade and but receive a once in a lifetime 5 Day Advanced Sake Course to Japan.
The competition is open to any professionals involved in the service of sake. Once you have registered, you will be sent a first-round questionnaire. Successful candidates will get through to the semi-final where they will be judged on a blind tasting and a practical skill. The top candidates will then compete for the title where, in front of a live audience, candidates will be tested both practically and orally on errors on a sake list, food and sake matching, service skills and a blind tasting.
