Innovate Services’ catering function awarded for food hygiene standards, healthy food and drink options and encouraging physical activity amongst students.
Innovate Services, the innovative catering operator to the education sector, and City of Wolverhampton College have scooped a city award, after putting healthy living on the menu. The college’s Paget Road refectory, which is run by Innovate Services, was awarded the highest accolade of Platinum in the Wolverhampton Healthy City Awards.
The restaurant picked up the prestigious award for its winning recipe of excellent food hygiene standards, healthy food and drink options, encouraging physical activity and using energy efficient options.
Students at the college are able to choose from a wide variety of food, including pasta dishes, freshly wrapped baguettes, and a popular salad bar – all of which are freshly made, every day, by the catering team.
Principal Mark Robertson said: “This is a brilliant result for the college and really showcases our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our students and the wider community. A healthy body means a healthy mind, and eating tasty, balanced meals can only help our students perform well and achieve in their studies.”
Added Innovate’s Catering Manager for the Paget Road facility, Darren Husted: “I am really pleased to get this award, which is testament to the hard work undertaken by both the college and my colleagues at Innovate. Our focus is on encouraging students to eat more healthily and look after themselves every day. We therefore create menus that offer a huge range of choice, and that are designed with balanced nutrition in mind.”
The Healthy City Award was introduced in Wolverhampton to award those organisations that were promoting a healthy lifestyle and creating a healthy environment for staff and members of the community.
Adds Derick Martin, CEO of Innovate Services: “We work in partnership with the College to deliver an exciting new approach to catering. We are ultimately driven by a goal to inspire students with a blend of healthy eating and an inviting space in which they enjoy spending their time; the results speak for themselves. Congratulations to the entire team at City of Wolverhampton College for winning this prestigious award.”
