Carlson Rezidor strengthens its portfolio in the United Kingdom with the Radisson Blu Hotel Kingston upon Hull in conjunction with the developer Manor Property Group. The new-built property will feature 168 guest rooms, is scheduled to open in late 2016, and will bring Carlson Rezidor’s UK & Ireland portfolio to 51 hotels in operation and under development. Radisson Blu is Europe’s largest upper upscale hotel brand.
City of Culture 2017
“The United Kingdom is a key mature market for us, and we are delighted to bring our core brand Radisson Blu to Kingston upon Hull which will be the UK’s “City of Culture” in 2017”, said Wolfgang M. Neumann, President & CEO of Rezidor.
The hotel will be situated in the central business district of Hull along the shores of the River Hull. Kingston upon Hull is a strong secondary market and a major port on England’s east cost – handling 13 million tons of cargo per year and more than 1 million ferry passengers. As the largest city in the area, Hull has established itself as an important hub for retail, commerce and manufacturing. Recent developments include “The Deep”, one of the world’s largest aquariums, shopping centers and the Hull & Humber World Trade Centre. Various new large scale developments have been announced – e.g. large offshore wind farms and a wind turbine manufacturing plant by Siemens.
The Radisson Blu Hotel Kingston upon Hull will offer 168 contemporary rooms with Radisson Blu signature services such as free high speed internet access. Further services and facilities will comprise an all day dining restaurant, a lobby bar & café, and a health club. The hotel has also been designed to meet the needs of local businesses and their visitors – it will include 750m² of meeting space and underground parking. The building is part of the Manor Mill mixed-use development which will also feature a 23-floor residential tower, student homes, a 5000m² casino, and a plaza with restaurants and bars.
Specialist hotel architects Leach Rhodes Walker added: “The design brief required the introduction of the internationally renowned Radisson Blu hotel to the development together with its significant restaurant, bar, lounge and meeting rooms. These public accessible facilities contained over three storeys have been designed to allow full visibility and interaction with the waterside walkways, and to bring additional vibrancy to the development’s central civic square. The curved facade of the hotel rises 12 storeys above the waterside offering sweeping panoramic views over the city”.
