Hotelympia’s Design Award is set to make a welcome return to the fold when the UK’s most comprehensive event for the hospitality industry, Hotelympia 2014, opens its doors at London’s ExCeL (28 April – 1 May 2014).
In 2012, the search was on to find the UK’s most luxurious hotel suite, with the opulent, yet quintessentially English Royal Suite at London’s Mandarin Oriental taking the spoils. In 2014, the show turns its attention to the UK’s best designed new hotel interior. The award is open to all operators and designers who have launched since January 2012, whether it be a new build, rebrand or retrofit.
The judges
The process will again be overseen by an expert panel of industry leading judges including: Steve LaBouchardiere, co-founder of award-winning interior designer, designLSM; director at hospitality architecture and design specialist, Scott Brownrigg, Una Barac, and director at Fox Linton Associates design studio, Dennis Irvine. Jan Wilson, managing director of RPW Design – the company behind 2012’s winning suite – is also part of 2014’s judging team, offering unrivalled insight into what it takes to scoop the accolade.
Head Judge, Stirling Johnstone commented: “In 2012 we laid down the gauntlet, uncovering some of the UK’s most awe inspiring spaces. Now we are looking for the full package – the new hotel that has style and panache in abundance. Judges will be called upon to closely examine and consider best use of space, lighting, bedroom design, restaurant and bar interiors, lobbies, and even corridors! I’m tremendously excited to have some of the most respected names in the industry to help uncover the UK’s greatest new hotel – I urge hotel operators who think their design fits the bill to get in touch today.”
Finalists on display
Following initial judging, entries will be whittled down to three overall finalists – with each hotel featured on a dedicated display wall situated by the Design Stage throughout the four-day show. The Awards are set to culminate with a special presentation and champagne reception in front of an audience of designers, hoteliers, investors and members of the press.
The closing date for entries into Hotelympia’s Design Award is 31stJanuary, 2014. Entries will be accepted from architects, designers, hoteliers or their public relations representatives.
