SUBWAY has opened its first ever store within a Lidl supermarket. The store is situated just outside the busy seaside town of Cromer in Norfolk and is the 12th store opened by local SUBWAY franchisee Raj Rao. This partnership with Lidl is the first of its kind for the German supermarket chain.
The Cromer store spans 800 square feet, is situated on the busy A148, and will cater to the local population as well as the many tourists that visit over the summer. It highlights the UK’s demand for high quality quick service restaurants.
Strategic focus on off high street locations
The SUBWAY brand is the world’s largest specialist sandwich provider and development in off high street locations is one of its major strategic focuses. There are currently more than 300 SUBWAY stores open or in development in other non-traditional locations, such as on forecourt sites, within convenience stores or within universities and colleges.
Trevor Haynes, Area Development Manager, commented:
“The non-traditional locations are a key area of growth for the SUBWAY® brand in the UK and Ireland. The simple operations that are involved in running a SUBWAY® franchise and the convenience offer make it a perfect fit for these style locations. The partnership with Lidl is the first of its kind and we are excited to see what this could lead to in the future.”
