hungryhouse has now been fully acquired by the international online food ordering platform Delivery Hero, who they had initially merged with in 2012. With the recent purchase of EatitNow.co.uk, another UK online food ordering service, there will now be a greater number of restaurants in the hungryhouse network and therefore more choice for customers.
hungryhouse was already the UK`s leading online platform for takeaway and food delivery, with more than 8,000 restaurants on their platform. With a simple postcode search, customers can order their takeaway in minutes
The hungryhouse acquisition by Delivery Hero makes it part of the largest network for online food ordering in the world. Delivery Hero serves more than 4 million customers and works with over 33,000 restaurants in 12 countries including Australia, Mexico, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden and China, helping to ensure that local restaurants increase their takeaway orders and keep up with technological demands.
The hungryhouse founders have decided to stay involved in the business as CEO and founder Tony Charles explains:
“We believe there is still a lot of growth potential left in this business, and so we reinvested 98% of the purchase price of our shares into Delivery Hero. We had always planned to make an exit, but the opportunity to continue the Delivery Hero success story was too much fun to turn down!”
EatitNow.co.uk was a smaller rival to hungryhouse and, as of last week, hungryhouse took over all of their orders adding around 800 new restaurants to their site.
