Westminster Kingsway College is the first Institute of Hospitality Approved Centre in the country to announce that it will offer the new Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management. The 18-month training course is aimed at junior managers working in the hospitality industry who want to proceed into senior management roles.
John Cunningham MIH, director of professional development at the Institute of Hospitality, said:
“Westminster Kingsway College have successfully delivered the Institute’s qualifications for years and so I am delighted that they are the first to confirm they will be offering the new Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management using our Advanced level qualification as its backbone. Apprenticeships like this provide a great blend of training in the knowledge, skills and experience needed to manage effectively in the workplace.
“We know we have a shortage of highly skilled professional managers and this Higher Apprenticeship is a ground-breaking way to develop the managers that we desperately need.”
The Higher Apprenticeship provides flexibility depending on the learner’s needs and experience and includes the following elements:
- Institute of Hospitality Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism – a taught programme with one day per month spent at Westminster Kingsway College, which also includes online assessments through the Institute of Hospitality. Completing this part of the course will mean that apprentices receive a professional qualification as part of their studies and are eligible for Institute of Hospitality Membership.
- NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management – a competency based qualification with workplace assessment. A portfolio of supporting evidence is also required.
- Functional skills at Level 2 – Maths, English and ICT.
Earlier this year the Government announced new funding to develop a range of new Higher Apprenticeships in sectors including law, aviation, engineering and hospitality. These near-degree level qualifications are viewed as a step towards rebalancing the UK economy and spreading opportunity.
The course fees for the Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management at Westminster Kingsway College are £2,800 per person, including registration with the Institute of Hospitality and exam fees.
