First Wheelchair Basketball Pub in the World

August 30, 2012

Wheelchair Basketball looks set to be one the main events at the sold-out 2012 Paralympics – 22 nations will battle it out for Gold!

The homecoming of the Paralympics and 30 years of British Wheelchair Basketball (formerly known as the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association), will be celebrated by the opening of The Wheelchair Basketballer, the first wheelchair basketball pub in the world.

In partnership with Fuller’s Brewery, The Pilot Inn in Greenwich will transform into for the duration of the games, broadcasting live matches and providing guests with stats, local information, great affordable food and drink, book signings of ‘Wheelchairs Can Jump’, and – of course – offering some respite and a chance for wheelchair basketball fans from around the world to meet up!

British Wheelchair Basketball Chief Executive, Charlie Bethel, said

“The Wheelchair Basketballer provides us with the perfect venue to host our own and visiting wheelchair basketball fans in a fantastic environment. Fuller’s have been a receptive support, fully understanding and supporting our vision.”

Location

The Wheelchair Basketballer is located just 300 metres from the North Greenwich Arena, home to the majority of wheelchair basketball matches. The family friendly pub has a fantastic garden and is within pushing distance of North Greenwich Station (accessible).

The Pilot, or Wheelchair Basketballer is an historic pub which has stood in Greenwich for over 200 years and been witness to the amazing transformation of the area. During the Games   it will be broadcasting the matches live and there will be a variety of promotions running, together with a book signing and an opportunity to buy ‘Wheelchairs Can Jump’.

With both the Great Britain Men’s and Women’s teams facing off against their closest rivals in the hunt for medals across nine fiercely competitive days, The Wheelchair Basketballer offers all fans of the sport a fantastic place to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the biggest event of the year together!
