Hello and welcome to this week’s update from The Football Pie League studios here in Ascot. We have a guest this week most of you know and will be hearing from later, but now here are the main headlines…
The Piebury Corner faithful voting has retained top spot in the league for Arsenal. The fans from Piebury Corner played a great squad game with some notable individual performances too. Facebook groups’ talking to each other amongst Arsenal fans has been key this week and seems to have made the difference.
We understand that Piebury Corner are in talks directly with Arsenal FC looking at getting the club behind Arsenal in the Pie League. We wait to hear and will report on the outcome as soon as the club makes an announcement.
This week also saw a very strong performance from last season’s champions Ipswich. The highlight of this week’s Ipswich activity being Town legend Kevin Beattie backing the ‘Portman Pie’ retaining the league trophy on BBC Radio’s ‘Life’s a Pitch’. Website promotion also helped both from the club and fan groups.
A very strong entry to the league this week came from Aston Villa, from seemingly nowhere they have made a statement on their league ambitions by moving up to third. A bold statement was made on the Aston Villa website this week that shows unity at the club in getting behind their team challenge.
Our guest this week is no stranger to The Pie League and I am glad to welcome ‘a well-known sporting legend’.
Thanks, well quite a week of action, end to end stuff played at lightning speed. The flow of play from Arsenal was reminiscent of a few tears ago, we want to see more of the beautiful game from Arsenal in the run up to the season end.
Ipswich were impressive and consistent and once again are around top spot with enough time still left this season to realistically look at a back to back titles.
Villa impressed me but I want to see if they can maintain this momentum, the Chicken Balti could make all the difference.
Chelsea and Man City were relatively quiet this week and Tottenham moved down the table without putting in any meaningful challenges, Arsenal clearly still ahead now in North London.
As the season enters the final stage who knows what the weeks ahead will bring, one thing we do know from experience though is, it’s the fans that make the difference in this league.
Thanks ‘a well-known sporting legend’ as always the inside track on everything pie from around the grounds. Well that’s it this week, we’ll be back next week with more news and reports so from The Pie League studios here in Ascot it’s over and out.
