Fuller’s marks one year of Gales Seafarers Ale giving
The ramparts of historic Southsea Castle last week played host to London brewer Fuller, Smith & Turner P.L.C. as the company celebrated the first full year of Seafarers Ale sales with a presentation of monies raised for maritime charity, Seafarers UK.
Fuller’s Director, Richard Fuller, joined Commodore Barry Bryant, Chief Executive of Seafarers UK, at Henry VIII’s imposing coastal defence fort, which was built in 1544.
Seafarers Ale, a wonderfully drinkable, refreshing ale, has been a permanent fixture in the Fuller’s ale portfolio since April 2009. For each brewer’s barrel sold, the company donates £5 to Seafarers UK, the leading maritime charity supporting members and former members of the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and fishing fleet.
Since its launch, Seafarers Ale has been a remarkable success and Richard Fuller was delighted to be able to present a cheque for £22,000 to Commodore Bryant, for the first full year’s donation to the charity.
On receiving the cheque, Commodore Bryant commented: “I would like to thank Fuller’s immensely for this donation, and for continuing to support Seafarers UK in this way. This money is invaluable in our work helping all those who work at sea, and their families.
“I would also like to thank all the beer’s fans who have made it such a success in its first year.”
Richard Fuller, Director of Fuller’s, said: “It is easy to forget the amount of good that companies like Fuller’s and the pubs of this nation do for charities everywhere, when the beer and pub industry is so often under fire.
“I am delighted that our customers have taken to Seafarers Ale so enthusiastically and have helped us raise this terrific amount for Seafarers UK in the process.
“I am constantly hearing good reports of the beer from the trade and the public and look forward to presenting further cheques to Seafarers UK in the future.”
About Gales Seafarers Ale
Seafarers is an extraordinary cask ale. It was originally developed as a tribute to Gales’ close association with all who sail the seas and, indeed, for every pint bought Fuller’s makes a donation to Seafarers UK, the leading maritime charity.
Seafarers is brewed to 3.6% abv and is a delicious, thirst-quenching ale. The secret of the hugely satisfying, refreshing taste of this light, amber beer is in the blend of finest quality English malt, Admiral hops and the unique Gales yeast. Well-developed fruity malt flavours and gentle bitterness sail through to a satisfying hoppy finish
About Seafarers UK
Seafarers UK is the new name for King George’s Fund for Sailors, which has been helping seafarers since 1917. It is an umbrella organisation that awards grants to other maritime charities.
The charity defines seafarer as someone who is, or once was, in the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy or fishing fleets. Seafarers UK also gives grants to charities that help seafarers’ families, including widows and children.
