Successful budget design hotel group Motel One is opening a new hotel: Motel One Berlin-Upper West will be the group’s ninth hotel in the German capital. Its partnerships with Italian luxury furniture brand Baxter and star photographer Jim Rakete are setting new standards. The hotel’s ideal location in the west of Berlin, right by the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, its unique, artistic interior and high-quality furnishings make it an exquisite showcase for Motel One’s design and quality statements.
The hotel has 582 rooms and occupies 19 floors of the new Upper West building, which can already be described as a City West landmark. The highlight is the One Lounge – the centrepiece of every Motel One – situated on the 10th floor with luxurious furnishings, a roof terrace and a panoramic view of Berlin. The hotel has a cinema theme, picking up on Berlin’s tradition as a film location, and on the legendary Zoo Palast cinema next door. The cinema theme is echoed in the rooms, and the new hotel is also the first to implement the enhanced concept with even more luxurious furnishings.
“Berlin is a very important location for Motel One and one that we are strengthening further by opening our ninth hotel in the city,” says Dieter Müller, CEO and founder of the Motel One Group. “With our exclusive location right by the landmark Memorial Church and our high-quality art and design partnerships, we are positioning ourselves even more clearly as a budget design hotel group. Motel One Berlin-Upper West is a true expression of our brand philosophy.”
Spectacular One Lounge on the 10th floor – a top-class space to work, meet and relax
The systematic enhancement of the One Lounge concept under the motto “work, meet and relax” has been perfectly realised at the group’s new hotel, which places the bar centre stage as the visual and social focus. The One Lounge location on the 10th floor is spectacular, offering fantastic views of the city. Its individual design is based on the cinema theme and realised in an exclusive partnership – a first for Motel One – with Baxter, the Italian luxury leather furniture manufacturer. Finest leather, comfortable armchairs, interesting shapes and signature pieces let guests experience the world of Baxter interiors and create a modern, exclusive mix of top-quality design.
Historic cine cameras, old rolls of film, a wall of scenes from the red carpet and the Cinema Lounge showing classic films provide the finishing touches to the cinema theme.
Another spectacular feature is the roof terrace, where a pop-up bar facing the Memorial Church makes an inviting place for a drink in fine weather. It is also a special setting for breakfast in the morning.
Exclusive actor portraits by star photographer Jim Rakete
Berlin-based celebrity photographer Jim Rakete has also contributed to the cinema theme. Commissioned by Motel One, he took photos of six famous German-speaking actors: Moritz Bleibtreu, Christiane Paul, Jürgen Vogel, Katharina Thalbach, Wotan Wilke Möhring and Birgit Minichmayr. The result is a series of unique black-and-white portraits and scenic photographs taken in the area around the hotel. The impressive large-scale photos are on display both on the ground floor and in the Lounge, and give the spaces an individual feel.
Added luxury in the rooms: Even more quality, individual design and smart TV
There are some new features in the rooms too, where the One Lounge theme is echoed in Jim Rakete’s actor portraits on the wall above the comfortable box-spring bed. Even greater comfort is provided by design highlights like the Freifrau leather armchair, B&B Italia table and Artemide floor lamp. Bedlinen made from 100% Egyptian cotton, velvet curtains, a safe, a 40-inch Loewe television and a granite and glass bathroom with a Raindance shower complement the unique room experience. Motel One is also introducing smart TV as a pilot project. Guests can connect their smartphones or tablets directly to the television and play their favourite films, series and music on the TV set. Motel One smart TV not only offers guests excellent entertainment but also gives them access to a number of practical services, where they can, for instance, order a charging cable or request additional towels.
