Bohemia Chef Michael Cruickshank has reached the National Finals of the Roux Scholarship 2017, following the regional final held at the University of West London, Ealing.
Michael is proud to be one of the few shortlisted to compete in the finals of one of the world’s most renowned fine dining competitions. Only the best young talent in the UK are chosen to go through to the finals and out of 18 chefs just six were chosen to go through to the final.
The rising chef battled it out against the other contestants to create a dish, and dessert which used mystery ingredients given to them on the day, in only 2½ hours.
Andrew Fairlie, Simon Hulstone and James Martin judged the 12 finalists, at the University of West London, Ealing, alongside Alain Roux. Six other finalists battled it out at the University College Birmingham – the two regional finals took place simultaneously on 23 March 2017.
“We had to make some difficult choices but we’ve got six strong chefs in the final which will make for an exciting competition,” said Alain Roux.
The final will be held on 10 April 2017 at Westminster Kingsway College, London and the 2017 Roux Scholar will be declared at The Langham, London that evening.
The panel of judges will be headed by Three-Michelin starred chef, Anne-Sophie Pic alongside joint chairmen Alain and Michel Jr. They will be joined by James Martin, David Nicholls, Brian Turner, head scholar Andrew Fairlie as well as previous winners Simon Hulstone (2003 scholar), Sat Bains (1999 scholar) and André Garrett (2002 scholar).
For the final, the recipe and ingredients will be given to the finalists just 30 minutes before the start of the competition. They will create a main dish, either classic or modern, and will be given three hours to prepare and present it to the judges.
