Uber cool café – My Place Soho and The Blue Ivy boutique hotel in Colchester have become the first to unleash a unique Scone-Brioche hybrid, aptly named the Scioche™ on the south England buzzing food scene.
Blitzing baking boundaries, the Scioche™ combines an award-winning brioche recipe with the most loved elements of a traditional British scone to offer the best of both bakes.
The Scioche™ Original can be treated like a scone with cream, berries and jam, while the Sicilian Lemon & Poppy Seed version offers added versatility as it can also be toasted and topped with savoury treats such as crabmeat, scallops or chorizo.
Invented by Kent’s creative artisan bakers Speciality Breads, the official launch of the Scioche™ will take place on Friday 24th March, ahead of Mother’s Day weekend at My Place Soho, 21 Berwick Street, W1F 0PZ and The Blue Ivy, 4-6 North Hill, Colchester CO1 1DZ.
Co-owner of My Place Soho, Dini Shahini said:
We love innovative new products so it was a real pleasure to be one of the first in the UK to get their hands on the Scioche™. As soon as we saw and tasted it, we knew it was going to be a winner so we can’t wait to officially launch our two dazzling dishes to the masses on Friday.
Aaron Fields, Bar Manager at the Blue Ivy Hotel said:
We love creative new products so we’re the delighted to be the first in Essex to roll out the Scioche™. Our Scioche™ Cream Tea is immense. It tastes delicious and looks sublime so I think they’ll be a big hit this weekend.
The Scioche™ is the brainchild of Speciality Breads’ MD Simon Cannell, who commented:
We’ve always been known for our innovation but the Scioche™ has definitely taken this to a new level so we’re excited to see the consumer reaction. We appreciate the time Dini and Sam plus James and Aaron have put in testing the Scioche™ and coming up with some incredible dishes so we can’t wait to see what their customers think on Friday.
Speciality Breads
Established in 1996 in Margate, Speciality Breads provides an ever-growing, artisan selection of over 100 freshly frozen breads, which are hand-made by the company’s master bakers using Red Tractor certified British flour.
Flying the flag for British bakers, Speciality Breads has continued its astronomical rise since starring at the Olympics in 2012 with 30% year-on-year growth and the launch of a new £3 million state of the art bakery in November 2015. Just this year in February, the bakers bucked the trend of negative news regarding BREXIT after securing its first BREAD-XIT export deal.
The company distributes its products to a UK-wide network of wholesalers, who in turn supply leading restaurants, pubs, cafés, caterers and hotels throughout the UK.
