AccorHotels, the world’s leading hotel operator, has officially opened its new ibis Cambridge hotel. Situated in the prime location of Station Square directly opposite the train station, it is the first AccorHotels property in Cambridge and the largest hotel in the city and its surrounding areas.
The hotel’s opening is creating around 20 new jobs, ranging from managerial roles to receptionists, bar and restaurant staff.
The hotel comprises 231 Sweet Room by ibis, the brand’s new room concept which is one of the most contemporary and comfortable in the economy segment, created specifically for the wellbeing of guests. ibis Cambridge also holds a new _SPACE by ibis meeting rooms, a unique meeting room concept that addresses the growing requirement for flexible working spaces, and the new “Chill #2” coffee shop.
Chill #2 is the main check-in area of the hotel, where guests can check in without the hassle of reception desks. The café-bar sources local produce, which will be prepared fresh onsite, and stock artisan coffee.
Bookings are taking place now and as an opening offer loyalty club members will receive x4 Le Club AccorHotels points with every confirmation. ibis Cambridge is located in Station Square, next to the train station with fast trains to and from London as well as easy access to Birmingham and Scotland.
Karelle Lamouche, Senior Vice President for Economy and Budget hotels at AccorHotels UK & Ireland commented: “The hotel marks a new benchmark in the economy hotel segment and offers greater comfort, well-being and modernity to guests. Over the past few years the ibis family has disrupted the classic codes of the economy segment and ibis Cambridge will offer a new standard in comfort, without the increased price tag. Its prime location and the new _SPACE by ibis meeting rooms mean ibis Cambridge is perfectly suited to business travellers.”
Cambridge welcomed 430,000 visitors from overseas alone last year, collectively staying over 3.5 million nights and spending £350 million. This made it the 10th most visited UK town by overseas visitors1.
Thomas Dubaere, Managing Director, AccorHotels UK & Ireland added: “We have ambitious expansion plans in the UK and growth in the regions outside of London is a key part of this. Cambridge is a hugely popular destination for both leisure and business travellers and our new hotel will help to cater for both. We are very pleased to be investing in the Cambridge economy and look forward to making a positive impact in the area for our guests, partners and the local community.”
Earlier this year AccorHotels published its first socio-economic footprint study, carried out to better understand the impact of its operations on local communities and supply chains. The study has been used to help strengthen the positive impacts the company has in the communities around its hotels. The group relaunched its PLANET 21 sustainable development programme in the Spring and over the past five years, the programme has seen the group cut water consumption by nearly nine per cent, energy consumption by five per cent and carbon emissions by six per cent.
