World renowned cider maker Tom Oliver will be joining award-winning cider journalist Bill Bradshaw and the National Association of Cider Maker’s Gabe Cook in the Beer & Cider Hub at Imbibe Live 2016, Olympia London, 4 & 5 July. With a much enhanced profile for cider at this year’s trade show, each will host a tasting masterclass.
Cider Rocks, so-called in recognition of Oliver’s other life, that of tour manager, will include a trio of his ciders and perries plus other favourites, including The Serpent, the groundbreaking tripartite collaboration he worked on with Rob Lovatt at Thornbridge and Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery.
Cook, himself a cidermaker as well as the new communications officer at the NACM, will use examples of single varietal, hopped, oak matured and organic cider to illustrate the craft of cidermaking – plus one made with Scottish fruit.
Bradshaw meanwhile will tour the globe, beginning with cider from Wales’ Andy Hallett, the 2016 BBC Food & Farming Drinks Producer of the Year, before crossing the channel for the sophisticated cider of former top sommelier, Eric Bordelet. Ice cider, a Trentino sparkler plus an award-winning pommeau complete the picture.
The nation’s largest independent cider maker, Aston Manor, makes its Imbibe Live debut, alongside show regulars, including Thistly Cross and Sheppy’s. Other key producers appearing include Aspall, Lilley’s and Healey’s.
Other cider highlights include:
- Sparkling Angioletti ciders from one of Italy’s orchard heartlands, Trentino.
- Magnums as well as half and 70cl bottles of Pilton cider, from one of the UK’s foremost exponents of keeving, Martyn Berkeley.
- The UK debut for Bulwark Cider, the best-selling cider in its homeland of Nova Scotia.
- Heathwick’s new cider, Wingtip Sky High, from Asturian maestros, Trabanco.
- Ireland is beginning to make its mark in the cider world, as seen by recent wins both at the Royal Bath & West Show, and the International Cider Challenge. Ireland Craft Breweries are bringing ciders from Dan Kelly and Long Meadow Cider.
- Instil’s global portfolio, including Maeloc and El Gaitero (Spain), Zeffer (NZ), and Hills (Australia).
‘I’m thrilled that we have so many key players joining us,’ said Imbibe beer & cider correspondent, Susanna Forbes. ‘There will be no better place this year to explore more about this fascinating drink, its heritage and its place in the on-trade, and to find compelling ciders and perries to stock.’
Imbibe Live is open to all members of the on-trade involved in buying and serving drinks.
