The team behind HotBox is to launch a new restaurant, Chuck Burger, on Commercial Street on July 5th. Having served its signature burgers and ‘almost’ award-winning wings (more on that later) from a converted Chevy Step Van at Street Feast’s Hawker House since October 2015, Chuck Burger is now bringing a permanent burger fix to east London.
Inspired by founder Basit Nasim’s travels across America, the menu has been developed over time, guided by his favourite recipes from across the pond but using the freshest British ingredients. The Spitalfields restaurant will feature several favourites and brand new exclusive dishes. As well as the classic cheeseburger and bacon cheeseburger will be Chuck’s standout signature spicy Devil Burger, a ground 28-day aged chuck steak patty topped with charred jalapenos, American cheese, grilled red onions, sriracha mayo, and topped with a green jalapeno sauce.
The restaurant will also feature brand new burgers such as the Hot-Ox – aged chuck beef patty topped with slow cooked spicy oxtail chilli, American cheese, onions, pickles and chipotle mayo – and the Seoul Burger, crispy buttermilk fried chicken with Korean hot sauce and kimchi slaw. Elsewhere on the menu will be the Dolly Burger, a spiced lamb patty with cheese, grilled red onion, pickles, and sriracha mayo, in a sesame seed bun.
Not only burger experts, Chuck’s renowned Buffalo Wings are another of the menu’s highlights, having come second place in London’s Wing Fest in 2015, competing against 12 of the UK’s foremost wing aficionados. Rounding off the list of sides and desserts will be Mac ‘n’ Cheese Balls; Loaded Fries with homemade nacho sauce and pancetta bacon bits; and a rotation of American style desserts such as Key Lime Pie and the signature Lazy Sundae.
Set in a renovated classic east end London café, Chuck Burger’s design will retain the café’s tiled floors and will be furnished with furniture handmade from reclaimed materials. Tables are original steel tube bases with reclaimed hard wood table tops, while seating will be a mixture of wooden benches, vintage recycled chairs and stools. Lighting is a combination of bespoke steam punk style features such as metal tubes, chains, retro bulbs and reclaimed industrial factory lights. All art work will be done in house by Chuck Burger staff including wall art and hand painted logos.
