An aura of magic lies over the beautiful city of Venice and you can experience a taste of its charm in the heart of Docklands this summer. Decked out with glinting gondolier poles, gondola-style booths and candlelit lanterns, get your carnival masks at the ready for the Terrazza on The Thames – a Venetian-inspired Thames-side pop-up serving up a menu of Prosecco, cicchetti (Venetian tapas) and live music, now open at Columbia Restaurant, Bar and Terrace.
Prosecco cocktails galore
Once lounging in one of the gondola-style booths peppered along the waterside terrace, it’s time to choose a drink from a list that focuses on Venetian Prosecco, Prosecco-based cocktails and wines from premium Italian wine specialist Bolla, dating back to 1883, one of the most prestigious Italian wineries and wherein beats a Venetian heart. Prosecco is one of the most widely appreciated wines in Italy and has become famous all over the world. The Bolla Prosecco Extra Dry served at the Terrazza is an enchanting wine that pairs seamlessly with cicchetti and pizza as well as many Prosecco based cocktails. It’s only fitting to serve Venice’s signature cocktail the ‘Bolla Bellini’ featuring peach purée, topped up with Bolla Prosecco. Although a chilled flute of Bolla is delicious served on its own, the bar will also be serving an array of cocktails including the ‘Rossini’ and the ‘Bol-jito’, a refreshing twist on summer staple, the Mojito, both of which are topped up with Bolla’s signature fizz.
Venetian tasting plates
In keeping with the playful, carnival theme as well as the Italian prerequisite for cicchetti, the food menu is shareable and finger-friendly. Bruschetta with tomato, truffle, wild mushroom, ricotta and almonds; more-ish arancini balls with arrabbiata dipping sauce; and polenta chips with salsa verde and garlic mascarpone dip make up a few of the small plates available. Soak up all those cocktails with the Bolla Prosecco pizza: hand-stretched to perfection and layered with Prosecco-marinated buffalo mozzarella, Parma ham, rucola and a spicy tomato sauce before being crisped in a special, outdoor pizza oven.
Carnevale di venezia and live music
On the 23rd of June, get caught up in a whirlwind of coloured silks, masks, live music and revelry as the Carnevale di Venezia descends on the Terrazza on The Thames for one night only. At the ticketed event, guests will have the opportunity to extend the experience by winning their very own trip for two to Venice. Can’t wait for the carnival? Every Wednesday night throughout May (4th, 11th, 18th & 25th) there will be a live saxman for guests to enjoy whilst they while the evening away, Prosecco in hand, looking out onto the Thames. A DJ will be spinning luxurious beats throughout the month every Thursday and Friday evening, sure to keep spirits high.
Dreaming of your summer holiday? Escape to Venice for the evening at the Terrazza on the Thames, open all week for drop ins, parties and private bookings between 29th April – 30th September 2016.
