Ian Sturrock (pictured above with Nick Scade, AFWS Chairman) The Arts Club Restaurant Manager in London has been named the 2015 UK Restaurant Manager of the Year. Sturrock’s win follows a tense final at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington yesterday, in which he beat five other finalists to the title.
The finals of the competition saw the finalists create and present a business plan for a new restaurant in a Dragons’ Den-style scenario, in front of a VIP audience.
As the winner, Sturrock will receive a bursary enabling him to study at the Lausanne Business School in Switzerland.
Jack Cohn, general manager, Kensington Place in London, was placed second in the competition, while Giuseppe Longobardi, restaurant manager at the Cross at Kenilworth, was third.
The winner of the Virgin Rising Star, an award that goes to the highest placed restaurant manager under the age of 30, was Marcellin Hardouin from Adam’s restaurant, Birmingham.
The UK Restaurant Manager of the Year is aimed at restaurant managers – or those in similar roles in any sector of the hospitality industry – who are responsible for business performance, managing people, staff training and co-ordinating the operation of the restaurant.
