As the use of social media to share information with colleagues and contacts within our industry grows so does incoming readers to our website. But what are the headlines grabbing readers social sharing and through which social media channels?
Thankfully Google Analytics delivers answers to these questions as you will see below.
One of the interesting aspects of the results is that although all pages received substantial amounts of social sharing with many in the hundreds and one well over a thousand, volume wasn’t the ultimate decider in the final most read rank. In social media as in all aspects of communication influence has a far greater effect, who shared and subsequently how far it then reached won the day.
How you can determine the influence of an individual or brand on social media can in part be seen at Klout where your Klout score, a number between 1 and a 100 determines your social media influence.
What was also interesting was that one sector of our industry seems to be better connected and more influential socially that all others, content relating to restaurants and chefs dominate the Top 15.
The top three social channels delivering incoming readers to our website so far this year are Facebook and Twitter, with Facebook being only marginally ahead of Twitter followed by LinkedIn quite a distance behind the big two.
We will be publishing updates each month moving forward to keep monitoring the social media effect, but now here’s the final Top 15 measured by the number of times a page has been read multiplied by the average time the readers spent on that page.
