Rohit Chugh will launch Chai Ki on 21st August, following the opening of Toddy Shop, the bar at Chai Ki, earlier this summer. The restaurant will serve a menu of contemporary Indian dishes alongside cocktails and craft ales from the bar. Taking influence from Rohit’s childhood, dishes will be designed to share allowing for the home-style eating he grew up with.
The restaurant, at 1 Crossrail Place, is housed within a Norman Foster designed building in the North Dock. For an impressive after-dinner destination, the new development is complete with a verdant rooftop garden, stretching the length of the building and offering views of the dock and beyond.
Signature dishes
At Chai Ki signature dishes will include small plates such as Goan Prawns; roasted garlic, Goan chilli, rock samphire and tempered coconut rice (£8.20) and Chicken Pear Chaat; tandoori chicken tikka, pear, charred gem lettuce, mint, mango thyme dressing (£7.20). Larger plates list Dum Ka Gosht; slow cooked Welsh lamb shoulder, saffron, Kashmiri & green chilli, mushroom spinach, ‘achar’ pickles (£16.80) and Fish Kuzhambu; grilled salmon, Byadagi red chilli, mustard seeds, star anise, coconut, fennel beetroot aloo (£15.80).
A spice-infused cocktail list will come from Toddy Shop, the bar at Chai Ki, inspired by the coastal drinking dens of Southern India and their infamous Palm Toddy. The bar’s signature cocktails such as Chai and Orange Martini (£9.50) and Mango Caipirinha (£7.50) will be available alongside London craft beers and Toddy Shop’s own infused Pilsner.
Chai Ki provides a more formal setting than the bar with splashes of colour from textured saffron curtains framing leather banquettes, high ceilings, rich wooden tables and cage pendant lighting. Toddy Shop takes inspiration from childhood memories with scooter headlights, railway luggage racks and exposed structural steels.
