The stats make for grim reading when it comes to the health of the nation: 74% of men and 64% of women in the UK will be overweight by 2030. Reversing these numbers is one of the key challenges of our time.
The UK Foodservice Industry has declared loud and clear “challenge accepted” and corporate sustainability champion Footprint is calling for the innovative and forward-thinking work the wider sector has done to be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual Health and Vitality Honours.
On 10 August, the Health & Vitality Honours once again opened for entries from Foodservice businesses of all sizes to join the ‘Roll of Honour’, alongside the likes of previous winners such as Pret A Manger, Compass and Leeds City Council.
Driving the healthy eating agenda
Headline sponsored by quality of life services provider, Sodexo UK & Ireland, Footprint’s Health and Vitality Honours is the UK’s only award scheme specifically created to drive the healthy eating agenda in the Out of Home sector and celebrate the achievements of operators and manufacturers on the issues of health, nutrition and wellness.
The Honours provide Industry peers and professionals with the opportunity to showcase initiatives and best practice and help create a greater transparency on one of the most important social sustainability topics of our time.
Delivering on nutrition as well as taste
Chief Executive of Footprint, Nick Fenwicke-Clennell, commented: “With scientists advising the Government to halve the current recommended daily intake of sugar, and constant revelations about the rising toll of obesity, the state of the nation rests not only on consumers but on suppliers and caterers. The Foodservice Industry is responsible for every drink, dish and dessert eaten out of home so it’s our job, as a collective, to ensure each restaurant menu, QSR outlet, school canteen and hospital cafeteria delivers on nutrition as well as taste.”
“There are so many fantastic examples of companies that are already going above and beyond their point of call to engage on public health issues and we want to hear from them. It’s why we set up the Health & Vitality Honours in the first place; to showcase best practice across businesses within the foodservice supply chain and create a greater awareness about the steps that can be taken to ensure the wellbeing of future generations.”
