BaxterStorey has been awarded a Gold Standard Catering Mark by the Soil Association for its food at leading UK law firm Burges Salmon. The prestigious award makes Burges Salmon the first law firm in the UK to receive the award, and only the second workplace in the UK to receive the highest accreditation possible.
The award also marks out Burges Salmon as the first in the Bristol area to be awarded a Gold rating.
The Catering Mark is available to all businesses and recognises those that take steps towards producing more good food, free from GM, trans-fats and controversial additives.
Focused on organic, fair-trade and free-range
As part of the accreditation process, BaxterStorey introduced a number of new products at Burges Salmon’s restaurant, Glassworks, which focused on organic, fairtrade and free-range.
Christian Pauritsch, BaxterStorey South West operations director, said:
“This is a great result and re-affirms our approach to providing fresh, healthy food, using our local procurement strategy. Our Gold award means that we are supporting sustainable, organic agriculture, which has a significant positive impact on our environmental footprint. I would like to thank the team and our clients Burges Salmon for all their help and support in reaching the fantastic goal we have achieved.”
Leading the way to change food culture
Rob Sexton, chief executive of Soil Association Certification, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement by BaxterStorey and Burges Salmon – who are together leading the way in the drive to change food culture in the workplace. Serving menus to Gold Catering Mark Standards supports local businesses and reassures employees that all meals are free from GM ingredients. Achieving the Gold Catering Mark is a way of showing staff and shareholders the great work BaxterStorey and Burges Salmon are doing to improve staff health, support better animal welfare, and tackle climate change. This is no small achievement, and we hope that other businesses will follow in BaxterStorey and Burges Salmon’s footsteps.”
