24 year old Katie Leslie from Edinburgh has been announced as the winner at the Grand Final of Le Cordon Bleu’s UK Scholarship Award 2015.
The competition was particularly tough this year with an overwhelming interest in the award and some outstanding entries after a UK wide road show. However, Katie impressed the judging panel, showing a strong desire to learn while observing the Master Chef’s demonstration and a clear dedication to her work throughout the practical session.
Candidates were not judged on what they produced, but how they approached the practical session and their attentiveness during the demonstration, which will of course be the key attributes needed whilst studying the prestigious Diplôme de Cuisine and Diploma in Culinary Management. Katie will also be provided with complimentary accommodation in central London courtesy of our partner Urbanest, along with an internship at the two Michelin-starred restaurant, The Square under the guidance of Chef Phil Howard.
Elaine McCarthy, Lecturer of the Diploma in Culinary Management and judging panel member at Le Cordon Bleu London, commented on the news:
“I’m so pleased for Katie, she had an efficient work flow throughout the practical, expressed enthusiasm and confidence within her own ability, but was still positively self critical of her work. She also showed a great passion for the industry which led her to win this year’s scholarship award.”
