This month Carnaby saw the opening of Jinjuu, the first restaurant by Korean-American chef and television personality Judy Joo. Carnaby welcomes the new Korean restaurant to Kingly Street where it offers an informal dining experience celebrating the fun, food and design of the executive chef’s heritage. Judy made a name for herself as the only female Iron Chef in the UK and is now a regular on the Food Network and will be launching her US show Korean Food Made Simple in the UK.
The innovative new restaurant is arranged over two floors with drinks and ‘Anju’ (Korean food served with alcohol) being served on the ground floor where the main bar is located, whilst the downstairs restaurant showcases the extensive array of Korean dishes and flavours. From Korean street food and sharing platters, diners are given the opportunity to dine and watch the chefs at work around the central open kitchen grill. Inspired by her Korean roots, dishes include Kimchi fries, Korean tacos, kimbab Korean sushi rolls, pajeon pancakes and barbecued meats wrapped in lettuce are offered alongside Soju cocktails and Asian beer.
Design
Jinjuu’s interior plays with contrasting the ornate, decorative fabrics and patterns with the industrial exposed brick and concrete elements reflecting the aesthetics of modern day and traditional Seoul. Diners are encouraged to watch out for the hidden Korean street graffiti and bamboo ceiling feature.
Jinjuu’s outdoor terrace compliments Carnaby’s love of al-fresco dining similar to Kingly Street’s other restaurants and bars including Wright Brothers and The Detox Kitchen.
