Afternoontea.co.uk, the online home of afternoon tea, has reported a 50% rise in bookings in 2014 compared with 2013.
The website, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, saw 300,000 covers booked through the site in 2014, generating £7.5m of afternoon tea revenue for the venues they promote.
With 500 venues nationwide listed on the site, ranging from quaint country tea rooms to five-star hotels, medieval castles to double decker buses, it’s the world’s leading afternoon tea bookings site.
Keith Newton, founder, says:
“We’re very pleased to see the interest in afternoon tea continues to grow. It’s an affordable luxury that appeals to both the British public and tourists alike. More and more venues are identifying the effect afternoon teas can have on boosting their revenues and in turn are getting increasingly imaginative in their creations.”
While the average number of guests for afternoon tea stands at three, group bookings are increasingly popular, up 25% year on year, with more and more people choosing the delectable activity for baby showers, hen parties, weddings, family gatherings and birthday celebrations.
