The Miller Howe Café, based in the pretty Lakeland village of Grasmere, has re-launched with a new vision for the future. Taking its product ‘back to basics’ is the concept formulated by businessman Ian Dutton who has owned the café for almost a decade and is keen to create a more nostalgic appeal to traditional food and service.
Having just undergone a complete refurbishment, the Miller Howe Café is now exhibiting a much softer approach in terms of its interior décor, with wooden floors, new furniture and lighting. It’s a big change from the more clinical environment for which the Miller Howe Café has conventionally been known.
With a new till system installed only last week, featuring a large customer display, customers will benefit from a much speedier service and the new website, due to launch next month, will bring the establishment to a wider audience. The holistic approach will also encompass an entirely new menu, which, as Ian Dutton explains, aims to appeal to those seeking wholesome, fresh and locally sourced produce.
“We felt the need to strip back the menu and really think about what our customer wants,” he said. “There’s nothing better than freshly baked bread, quiche, scones and jacket potatoes hot from the oven, with salted crispy coats. The new menu will centre on providing good quality, rustic, comfort food, cooked the way it used to be – nothing reheated. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!”
