Confirming that the British public’s love of deep south BBQ continues apace, porky’s has opened a third restaurant in London’s BOXPARK pop-up mall in hipster central – Shoreditch.
porky’s bbq BOXPARK features authentic Memphis-style meats and smokin’ hot soul food together with Americana-inspired cocktails and an impressive range of bourbons, rye whiskies and craft beers, all served up to a playlist of country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll music.
porky’s can be found on the first floor of BOXPARK, the world’s first pop-up mall built entirely from shipping containers, taking up four interconnecting containers featuring two separate entrances, one leading to the restaurant and bar, with a separate takeaway counter at the opposite end.
Food
Road-tripping husband and wife team Simon and Joy Brigg have created a menu of authentic slow-cooked American BBQ dishes to get you all fired up. Kick off the USA adventure with some cheesy corn hush puppies or crab cakes with chipotle mayonnaise.
porky’s meats are cooked on a traditional Memphis-style grill and Oklahoma smokers to ensure they retain their exceptional tenderness, taste and natural juices. The main act features: Memphis meaty ribs and tips – dry-rubbed and gently smoked low and slow over hickory wood – and served with porky’s secret homemade BBQ sauce.
New to the menu and offered only at porky’s BOXPARK is the pulled pork & slaw sandwich – smoked for 18 hours and presented in a toasted bun. Plus the must-try hound-dogs – 100% British pork sausage with fried onions served in a soft bun and topped with pulled pork, streaky bacon and jack cheese, or with chilli and cheese.
For a taste of more southern hospitality, try the catfish, which comes spiced and fried, and side dishes such as mac & cheese, roasted corn on the cob, fried sweet potatoes and pit beans with rib tips.
No porky’s meal is complete without dessert. Try American classics including banoffee sundae with ice cream or peanut butter and jelly cheesecake.
Man V Ribs
Once you’ve had the porky’s induction, make sure you come back for the T-shirt! Every Wednesday paves the way for Man V Ribs. Take the challenge of devouring a whole portion of ribs, tips and fries and you’ll get a much-coveted porky’s T-shirt. Plus, the person who downs all in the shortest time each month wins a meal for two.
Drinks
porky’s diverse selection of whiskeys includes flavoured, rye and Tennessee varieties. There’s even a special bourbon cocktail list, with highlights such as ‘cowboys and cobblers’ (Evan Williams bourbon, peach syrup, lemon and red wine) and ‘seven seas of rye’ (Rittenhouse Rye, sweet vermouth, salt and chocolate bitters).
Other Americana-inspired cocktails include ‘tex-mex smash’ (Olmeca infused with chilli, mint, lime juice, pink grapefruit syrup and salt) and ‘porky’s iced tea’ (Courvoisier VS Cognac, vermouth, Bols Triple Sec infused with earl grey, lemon, sugar and ginger beer). Or, if you’re feeling brave, knock back a shot of homemade pickleback (Evan Williams bourbon chased with homemade pickle juice). Craft beers come in the form of delights such as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Fordham Wisteria Wheat and Porky’s own Snout Stout. There’s also the Orchard Pig Truffler dry cider.
