Luxury hostel brand, Safestay, is poised to announce an ambitious expansion plan for new openings across the UK. This follows Safestay becoming the first hostel group in the world to successfully list on AIM in May of this year.
Setting a new standard in stylish, affordable and comfortable accommodation, Safestay aims to appeal to a broad community of guests with their statement buildings, fabulous interiors and great city centre locations. Its portfolio includes the award-winning Safestay Elephant & Castle, London (opened in July 2012) and Safestay York which officially re-launch in January 2015 following its refurbishment.
Safestay Elephant & Castle
Located in John Smith House (the former Labour Party Headquarters), Safestay Elephant & Castle integrates the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ in all aspects of its design and architecture, embracing London both past and present. Whilst preserving many of the original features of the Grade Two listed building, from the mouldings to the fireplaces, the interiors designed by Black Box are otherwise strikingly contemporary with a strong emphasis on bold graphics, contrasting textures and innovative lighting.
Safestay York
Safestay York, located in Micklegate House in the city centre, is an impressive Grade I listed Georgian building originally designed by the famous architect John Carr of York, and is considered the most important Georgian residence south west of the River Ouse. Stand-out features of Safestay York include the original 18th century stone-flagged entrance hall and the sweeping staircase with its superb carved balusters sweeping in front of a magnificent arched window, and the stunning rococo ceiling featuring Shakespeare’s head, believed to have been created by the renowned Italian artist Cortese. All of these features will be preserved during the refurbishment programme.
Rooms and facilities
Both hostels include private twin rooms and family rooms with 40” plasma TVs and tea/coffee facilities, as well as four-, six- and eight-bunk bedded rooms, most with en-suite shower rooms. The bunk beds come with individual reading lights and curtains for extra privacy as well as lockers to secure luggage and personal items. Entry to the rooms is by touch key.
The open-plan public areas offer a lounge area, plasma TV screens, a pool table, bar, and a restaurant that serves complimentary continental breakfast as well as snacks and meals throughout the day. Further facilities include complimentary WiFi in the communal areas, a well-equipped laundry room, free luggage store, computer room and library area.
Commenting, Larry Lipman Chairman of Safestay says, “As the first and only listed hostel business, we are a game-changer for the industry and we now look forward to further expansion of the brand across the UK & Continental Europe.”
Rates start from £18 per bed per night. Private twin rooms are available from £60 per room per night.
